Jungo
Go (Weiqi), an ancient game renowned for its deep strategy, is often seen as the ultimate test of the mind. To make it more accessible and promote this brain-friendly classic, we created JunGo.
DISCOVER
Through user interviews and analysis of existing Go platforms, we identified key barriers preventing beginners from enjoying the game. Most users found Go too complex to learn, struggled to find suitable opponents, and lacked guidance to understand their mistakes. These insights revealed that while interest in Go is strong, the learning and improvement experience remains inaccessible for many new players.
DEFINE
From the research, three main user pain points emerged:
Complex onboarding: Go feels intimidating and hard to start.
Opponent mismatch: Players can't easily find balanced matches.
Lack of feedback: Users don't know why they lost or how to improve.
DESIGN
Building on these defined pain points, I translated the proposed solutions into interactive design concepts. Each feature was carefully prototyped to demonstrate how JunGo could simplify learning, create balanced gameplay, and provide meaningful feedback for improvement.
Lessons
Three simple, illustrated lessons make each rule easy to grasp. After every lesson, quick quizzes help beginners apply what they've learned in real-game scenarios.
Battle
Build your GO skills through real play! JunGo offers five AI difficulty levels, automatically adjusting as you improve. Players can also fine-tune settings manually. JunGo adapts and learns from those custom preferences too.
Dojo
Load any game record into the Dojo to review, replay, or analyze specific moves using the slider. The Hint and Land features help clarify uncertain moves. Players can retry positions, explore outcomes, and save progress, learning through hands-on practice.
Records
All game results (wins, losses, and draws) are saved on your profile page. Tap any record card to instantly reload the game and jump back into the Dojo for deeper review.
